History: The story about this recipe is that it requires slow--and I do mean v-e-r-y s-l-o-w--cooking. At 250 F in the centre of the oven for at least 60 minutes, and possibly longer. Use a knife blade to check for done-ness. I suspect that this recipe originated with my grandmother (and I'm 70 years old now--1997). I suppose you could claim that it's a Canadian recipe since my grandparents, my parents and myself all resided in Canada (Toronto). I can remember ladies in my mother's bridge clubs always asking for the recipe. The slow cooking and the use of brown sugar are what makes this recipe perfect!! ONLY USE BUTTER!!

Serving Size: 16
Preparation Time: 0:45

2 cups brown sugar
3/4 cup butter 3 beaten eggs
4 squares Baker's Chocolate--unsweetened
1 cup flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts
Mix in order given. Pour into 8" x 8" greased baking pan. Cook for 1 hour (at least) at 250 degrees F. Have access to a safety deposit box to guard them till the next day. Experienced children learn early how to acquire the brownies before an hour has passed by.
